Olga Stefanishyna was appointed as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States of America on August 27, 2025. She took over the position from Oksana Markarova, who had held the role since February 2021. At this critical moment, Olga’s leadership will help strengthen bipartisan support in Congress and the partnership between the U.S. and Ukraine. We look forward to continuing our work with the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA / Посольство України в США to expand cooperation and amplify Ukraine’s voice on the global stage.
Olga Stefanishyna is a seasoned executive with over 17 years of expertise in international and European law. Prior to her current role, she was the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine. In this government capacity, she spearheaded Ukraine’s integration efforts with the EU and NATO, defined legal policies, and established priorities for the Ministry of Justice. She also chaired the Commission on Coordination of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic Integration, leading the development of the adapted Annual National Program.
Following Ukraine’s application for EU membership on February 28, 2022, Stefanishyna immediately took charge of the accession process. By presidential decree on June 21, 2024, she was officially named the chief negotiator and head of Ukraine’s delegation for the EU accession talks. Since the start of the full-scale war, she has focused on leveraging collaboration with the UN to provide critical, comprehensive support to those affected by war-related violence, particularly survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.
Her prior experience includes roles at the Ministry of Justice, serving as Director-General at the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and private legal practice. She holds a Master’s degree in International Law, a Diploma in Economics, and is an alumna of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
Stefanishyna was ranked 45th in Focus magazine’s “100 most influential Ukrainians” list in 2021.
