A Big Day for Heorhii Roshka (Gosha) – Azovstal Defender

You probably remember Heorhii Roshka (Gosha), the marine defender of Azovstal, who was brought to the USA by United Help Ukraine for prosthetic treatment provided free of charge by Medical Center Orthotics & Prosthetics.
Last week we had a big day for Gosha and for all of us in United Help Ukraine! The incredible surgeon and a person with a big heart, Dr. Aviram Giladi and his team of MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, removed a neuroma on Gosha’s stump. The neuroma caused him constant terrible pain and prevented him from operating his new prosthetic arm. Dr. Giladi put Gosha on a recovery path, and when ready, he will return home to a very different life without pain – thank you for that, Dr. Giladi and team! This was possible thanks to the generosity and compassion of the management and charity care team of the MedStar Union Memorial Hospital – the hospital fully covered the cost of the surgery that was estimated to be over $31,000. Our heartfelt gratitude for this!
Gosha’s recovery is going very well and he is very grateful for the kind support from everyone. An interesting impression from the hospital experience: a lot of staff came by to pre- and post-op to meet Gosha. Among them, incredibly, we met a surgeon from Dr. Giladi’s team who was originally from Ivano-Frankivsk, an anesthesiologist from Moldova, a nurse from Odessa… Thank you all for your overwhelming support!
