With profound respect and gratitude, we honor Ambassador Oksana Markarova as she concludes her monumental tenure as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States — a role she embraced with unwavering courage and exceptional leadership since February 2021.
Amid the challenges of the full-scale war, Ambassador Markarova carried out such an important mission of representing Ukraine in Washington. Thanks to her efforts, Ukraine’s voice remained strong and was heard across the United States.
This is not a farewell — we are confident that this new chapter will open new opportunities to stand for Ukraine together.
Since her appointment, Ambassador Oksana Markarova has played a pivotal role, navigating Washington’s complex diplomatic terrain with skill and determination. She helped shape the U.S.–Ukraine Strategic Defense Cooperation and Partnership Charter and, amid Russia’s full-scale invasion, became a tireless advocate rallying bipartisan policymakers to secure critical U.S. support for Ukraine in the form of military, financial, and humanitarian aid.
As a wartime ambassador, she transformed the Embassy of Ukraine in the U.S. into an operational hub, pushing for sanctions, weapons, and economic resilience, while also launching Ukraine House to highlight Ukrainian culture and mobilize grassroots fundraising.
Beyond her official duties, she was an informal leader for the Ukrainian community in Washington, speaking directly to Americans, engaging with Congress, and standing shoulder to shoulder at community events to ensure Ukraine’s voice was heard. Her four years strengthened U.S.–Ukraine relations at a historic moment of challenge and solidarity.
Throughout her tenure, Ambassador Markarova stood shoulder to shoulder with United Help Ukraine at rallies, cultural gatherings, and community events in Washington and beyond. Together, we organized and participated in demonstrations calling for stronger U.S. support for Ukraine, vigils honoring fallen heroes, and public events showcasing Ukrainian culture and resilience.
Ambassador Markarova’s presence brought visibility and diplomatic weight to these moments, while UHU mobilized volunteers, amplified voices, and shared stories directly from Ukraine. Whether welcoming President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States or standing alongside our community during grassroots initiatives, her leadership and solidarity inspired thousands of supporters and helped strengthen U.S.–Ukraine relations. These collaborations underscored the power of advocacy, partnership, and unity in ensuring Ukraine’s story is heard.
This is not a farewell — we are confident that this new chapter will open new opportunities to stand for Ukraine together. We also look forward to continuing our close and meaningful partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington.
