The need for psychological support in Ukraine continues to grow as children and families cope with the effects of war, displacement, loss, and prolonged uncertainty. Through the SMUHA Family Resilience Project, United Help Ukraine is helping strengthen Ukraine’s mental health support network by equipping psychologists with practical, evidence-based tools to support children, teenagers, and families.
The latest SMUHA-3 training program marks an important milestone: 256 psychologists participated in the program, with 115 successfully completing the training and becoming SMUHA-certified.
SMUHA-3 was designed as an extended professional development program rather than a one-time training course. Over 11 months, participating psychologists strengthened their professional knowledge, applied new methodologies in practice, and received continued guidance and supervision from experienced coaches.

This combination of training, practical experience, and supervision helps psychologists develop skills they can apply directly in their work with children and families affected by the war.
Since 2022, 562 therapists have been trained nationwide through SMUHA, helping expand access to psychological support across Ukraine.
Today, the 23 regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian psychologists displaced by the war are also working in Poland, Czechia, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, and Bulgaria, providing psychological support to Ukrainian children and families displaced by the war.
This growing network allows the knowledge and skills developed through SMUHA to reach Ukrainian families both at home and abroad.
Behind every number is a professional better equipped to help a child cope with the effects of trauma, support parents through difficult periods, and help families restore a sense of safety, stability, and hope.
SMUHA-3 was completed despite air raid alerts, attacks, blackouts, and the daily challenges of teaching and learning during wartime. We are grateful to the psychologists who participated in the program and to the lecturers, trainers, coaches, partners, donors, and supporters who made this work possible.
