In September, people in Kyiv spent 242 hours and 40 minutes—more than a third of the entire month—under air raid alerts.
As winter approaches, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s cities, energy infrastructure, and vital transportation links, threatening access to electricity, heat, and essential services for millions of people.
On September 30, Russia launched a major attack on Ukraine’s energy grid, striking power generation and transmission facilities in Kyiv. The attack killed seven people and caused widespread outages.
In the days that followed, attacks continued across the country. On October 1 , Russia struck a school and a major bridge in Kyiv, as well as a business center in Odesa.
On October 2, strikes on bridges over the Dnipro River forced two of them to close, while a drone strike on an apartment building killed one person.
On October 4, Russia launched 135 attack drones against Ukraine , and a major Kyiv bridge busy with traffic was struck again.
In Sumy, a Russian attack struck a pharmaceutical warehouse and manufacturing facility, killing one employee and injuring three others.
These attacks are disrupting daily life, damaging critical infrastructure, and putting additional pressure on communities as another winter of war approaches.
United Help Ukraine is working now to help communities withstand attacks and respond when emergencies happen.
Right now, we are working to:
Emergency response cannot begin only after disaster hits. Supplies need to be ready, equipment needs to be in place, and people need to be prepared before the next emergency.
Your support today helps United Help Ukraine respond quickly when another strike hits, getting critical assistance to children, older adults, and families when they need it most.
With winter approaching, access to reliable power, heat, medical supplies, and safe places for families to find support becomes even more critical.
Russia’s attacks are taking both a physical and psychological toll on people across Ukraine as another cold winter approaches. Ukrainians continue to show extraordinary resilience. But they should not have to face another winter of war alone.
Please give before the cold sets in. Your gift today helps us prepare for what is coming and be ready to respond when the next emergency strikes.
