Ukrainians, and the world, watched in disbelief as nothing concrete was accomplished at today’s meeting between President Trump and Putin—while Ukrainian people still bleed. The war rages on, and relief feels further away for those living under daily bombardment.
Even more horrifying, the world witnessed a war criminal with the blood of innocent Ukrainians on his hands be welcomed on a red carpet. Shockingly, Russia’s unjust and ruthless invasion since 2014 was referred to as merely a “conflict” and the two Presidents shook hands as if occupation and atrocities can be ignored.
Normalizing relations while Russia occupies Ukrainian land sends a dangerous message: that war crimes and human rights abuses can be overlooked for political or economic gain.
Ukrainians know from past peace negotiations that Russia cannot be trusted. The humanitarian cost of inaction is staggering. Attacks continue relentlessly, and more lives will be lost tonight and in the days ahead.
United Help Ukraine is on the ground right now, delivering medical aid, defender’s support, and critical resources to frontline communities. Stand with Ukraine now—because the world cannot afford to stand still.
On Monday, August 18, the world witnessed a historic summit at the White House, where President Zelenskyy joined President Trump and European leaders.
Reports point to a proposed $90 billion U.S.–Ukraine deal, new steps toward security guarantees, and even the possibility of a trilateral meeting between President Zelenskyy, President Trump, and Vladimir Putin.
While leaders negotiate, civilians come under unrelenting fire — yet Ukraine’s defenders continue to hold the line.
The promises emerging from these talks highlight what we already know: international support is vital, but so is the immediate, daily aid delivered by organizations working directly with the people of Ukraine.
Key Takeaways from the August 18th Presidents’ meeting:
1. A possible Putin-Zelenskyy meeting has been discussed. No official dates or place were announced, though.
2. No ceasefire guarantees or deals were made. However, discussed and pushed back by European leaders, the ceasefire was mentioned by Donald Trump as “I don’t know that it’s necessary.”
3. The U.S. will be involved in providing security guarantees in case any deal is reached.
4. President Zelensky addressed the suit question as well as “not enough of gratitude” issues that took place back to February, 28, 2025 while the two Presidents met in Oval Office.
